Despite blustery cold winds in Cathedral Square Christchurch on 24 April World Day for Laboratory Animals a small band of stalwarts took turns holding the display stands in position. Without hesitation over 200 people of all age-groups with a predominance of men, signed the Petition. Bernie Calder screened Hidden Crimes during the afternoon. A magnificent display in the Public Library was undertaken by Natalie Taylor who also screened Hidden Crimes at Hagley High School, and, after much negotiation to the NZ Deer-Stalkers Association reporting both cases a very positive response.

Nelson Over 100 enthusiastic marchers, under three large banners, with placards, dogs and college girls dressed as cats followed a poster-covered trailer to the floodlit Cathedral Steps where they were met with music of "Bright Eyes" and "Born Free" played through the loud speakers. The Rev. Brian Bell, Yvonne Grey and Doreen Hills addressed the crowd. The Petition was well received and many were taken away to be filled. Acknowledgements to Pat Abbot for all his hard work with placard float, sound system and floodlights. (Doreen Hills) (Congratulations to Doreen and Sara Richards for their interview over Radio Nelson... and to Rick Hills and the others who contributed to the success of NZAVS Nelson World Day for Laboratory Animals 1987.)
