We have the exciting opportunity to rehome three New Zealand White Rabbits from the University of Auckland.

We have the exciting (and rare) opportunity to rehome three adorable New Zealand White Rabbits from the University of Auckland, and we're inviting you to be a part of this heartwarming journey!

Two of the rabbits, Bumble and Mango were used as part of a breeding program for scientific research. The third rabbit, Ned was used as a training rabbit, to show people how to properly work with rabbits. They are all now ready to enjoy the forever home they truly deserve.

We're collaborating with the team at the Auckland-based rabbit rescue, Raining Rabbits Rescue (aka the rabbit rehoming experts!) to find these animals the best possible homes in the Auckland region.

We call this a rare opportunity because most rabbits who are used for science in Aotearoa, don't make it out alive. In fact, the percentage of rabbits who died or were killed after being used for science in NZ hasn't been below 85% in the last decade!1

A few critical details:

  • These rabbits won’t be rehomed as solitary animals – they need a buddy.
  • They are also used to living indoors, so they need to go to a home where they can live indoors (or in a set-up that is both indoors and outdoors).
  • All rabbits will be desexed, vaccinated and microchipped before adoption.

HOW YOU CAN GET INVOLVED

1. Adopt: If you've been considering expanding your whānau with a furry friend, now is the perfect time. These rabbits are looking for their forever homes, and adopting one (or more!) will not only bring joy to your life but also provide these rabbits with the love and attention they crave.

2. Foster: If you're not ready for a permanent commitment but still want to make a significant impact, fostering is an ideal option. Fostering allows you to provide a temporary, loving home for one of these rabbits, helping them transition to a more comfortable life while we search for their forever homes.

APPLY TODAY: If you live in Auckland and you are interested in adopting or fostering, please email rainingrabbitsrescuenz@gmail.com.

3. Share the News: Even if you can't adopt or foster, you can still make a difference by spreading the word. Share this exciting opportunity with your friends and whānau who might be interested in giving these rabbits a second chance at a happy life.

With your help we can end animal experimentation in Aotearoa.
