Sign up to use your superpower for animals!
We all have the superpower to change the actions of politicians. Our vote can make or break them. Just like their vote can make or break the lives of animals in Aotearoa.
Right now, we are asking NZ’s Finance Minister to make sure funding is available for animal-free research, in the 2023 government budget, via a super quick and easy postcard action.
It’s crucial that we have money set aside in the government budget to fund the replacement of animals used in science. Once we remove this barrier, researchers will have access to funding that will help us see an end to animal experimentation. But we need your help to make this happen!
Please sign up today to send a postcard. The power really is yours to change the lives of animals used for science forever.
More about funding in NZ
Quick facts:
- We can't find any government funding set aside exclusively for replacing the use of animals in science.
- Currently, we can only identify $10,000 specifically allocated to the reduction, refinement and replacement of animal use for science. That money is only awarded every two years.1
- The NZ Government spends over $1 billion on science each year, and the science sector spends about $4.5 billion yearly.2 So, the money is there; we just aren’t spending it in the best way!
- Europe spends over 40 million Euros (~ $64 million) annually on replacement research.3 This helps highlight how far behind we are.
Together we can ensure that researchers have money available for using and developing animal-free scientific methods. Send a postcard today and use your superpower to help animals!
