John is based in Otepoti, Dunedin. Having spent many years breeding Hereford cattle, he’s now a vegetarian caring for a family of twelve cows living out their natural lives, numerous freeloading Muscovy ducks and a large cat called Pyewacket.  He’s also deeply enthusiastic about music and runs an on-line business, Totally Wired.

Prior to joining NZAVS he was the Finance Manager for the Deep South Province of the Green Party and found himself ensnared in two election campaigns. From this experience he learnt many lessons. Now he just plants a lot of trees.

Two years as Secretary and being a decidedly 'hands-on' board member have only made him more enthusiastic about the Charity. He’s gravitated back to the numbers side of things as Treasurer but is also sharing this role with Marlene.
